25 Oct Scott Krahling will make an excellent county clerk
The following appeared in the October 2, 2016 Las Cruces Sun News Letters to the Editor:
I am deeply impressed with the outreach work that Scott Krahling, deputy county clerk and candidate for Dona Ana county clerk, has been doing to increase access to voting. Earlier this week, as reported in the Sun News, he worked with seven area schools to hold a voter-registration drive, a project of the Election Advisory Council, which Krahling formed. Those efforts are critical to educating and energizing young voters in order to instill in them “lifetime voting habits,” in his words.
In other ways as well, Krahling has exhibited a commitment to broad civic engagement. During the primary election, for example, he and his staff opened the polls on Memorial Day. Many of the 460 who turned out that day found that voting on a holiday was both more convenient than on a work day, and an appropriate way to honor those who have fought for democracy. He also employs on-line tools to help voters, including posting sample ballots and a list of polling places and times.
I have known Scott Krahling since his undergraduate years at NMSU and can attest to his integrity and passion for good government. Now, with the experience he has gained and the vision he has displayed, I know he will be an excellent County Clerk for Dona Ana.
