25 Oct Krahling has passion, experience to be clerk

The following ran in the October 22, 2016 Las Cruces Sun News, Letters to the Editor:

I am a Republican, and I am voting for Scott Krahling for our next county clerk.

In the past couple of years I’ve known Scott, I have been impressed with his knowledge of the state election code and I know he is the most qualified candidate to be our next clerk. As supervisor of the Bureau of Elections and then chief deputy clerk, I have respect for his sincere passion of the election process and getting people involved and keeping them informed.

I believe our next county clerk needs to have hands-on experience administering elections and working with the complex systems used in the clerk’s office. The election process is one of the most complicated processes I have ever seen and I believe that Scott has the experience necessary to lower any risk factors in future elections.

I support his vision to educate people and increase voting in Doña Ana County.

As a member of the Election Advisory Council created by Scott, I have seen his commitment to building a voting culture based on informed voters.

This election year, the council has had much success in raising awareness about voting in Doña Ana County; and organizing voter registration drives in our local high schools to celebrate National Voter Registration Day. Scott’s vision will begin to close the voting gap and build a voting culture that starts with our youth. As a father of two small children, this is something very important to me.

Scott’s vision is backed by his experience, and he is ready to do the job on the first day when elected. Join me in voting for Scott Krahling as our next county clerk on Nov. 8.

Steve Montanez,

Las Cruces
